New Developments for Cairns and Great Barrier Reef

In addition to the guide, the region is also undergoing a major facelift, with a multi-million revitalisation development that will include new tourism infrastructure and major accommodation and convention centre refurbishments.

Here are just some of the exciting new developments taking place in Cairns and the Great Barrier Reef:
- The highly anticipated Cairns Aquarium, set to open in April 2017, will feature an impressive 200 seat restaurant and function centre, featuring a giant Great Barrier Reef shark tank, while the Oceanarium function space will cater to 120 people and offer a breathtaking 360 degree view of the oceanarium.
- Port Douglas Reef Marina will welcome Hemingway’s Brewery, featuring a bar and restaurant, in May. The two-storey microbrewery will boast 850 square meters of venue space, seating more than 450 people across an indoor and outdoor area, with an additional event centre on the top floor.
- Just a one-hour flight from Cairns, Lizard Island has also received an impressive facelift, undergoing a $45 million renovation which has included the upgrading of its 40 rooms and facilities including restaurant, bar, beach club, day spa, gym and landscaping.
- The Cairns Convention Centre is undergoing an upgrade that will see it feature state-of-the-art technology, improved access, efficiency and security features, and expanded networking spaces, offering clients more choice and flexibility and ensuring its competitive edge is maintained as an award-winning international convention venue
