Preparing your skin for summer - Make up tips from the experts

With high summer upon us, it’s our skin that really gets a beating due to the oppressive heat, humidity and sweat. But there’s are a few key things you can to make sure your skin is kept in optimal condition regardless of what the weather’s doing.

Jane Rocca speaks to the experts who share their product tips and treatments for an optimal summer glow.

1. NUDE BY NATURE’S BEAUTY EXPERT CLINT DOWDELL:

HIS MANTRA:

“Make sure you match your foundation with a tanned body.”

According to Dowdell, the easiest way to combat this is to use a foundation that still perfectly matches the complexion on the face, but warm it with a bronzer. It is much harder to get an even application of a foundation darker than our skin than it is narrow the gap between the body and the face.”

PRODUCT TIPS:
The Nude by Nature Matte Pressed Powder Bronzer has no shimmer or sparkle, and the tone adds warmth to the complexion evenly.

2. SEPHORA’S NATIONAL TRAINING MANAGER ANGELIQUE HOGAN

HER MANTRA: Both skincare and make-up routines need adjusting in summer thanks to the sun that can cause dehydration, flakiness and redness. Opt for long wearing make-up for eyes, lips and cheeks and use an SPF and swap your CC to a BB cream in summer.

PRODUCT TIPS:
For eyes she recommends: Tarte’s Amazonian Clay Waterproof Cream eye shadows.
For face she recommends: Tarte BB Tinted Treatment 12-Hour Primer Broad Spectrum SPF 30 Sunscreen. This works as a primer, moisturiser, light foundation, anti-aging treatment, and sunscreen in one.
For lips she recommends: Sephora Collection Rouge Infusion Lip Stain.
Other useful items: Make Up For Ever - Aqua Collection. Everything in the Aqua range is ultra-pigmented and waterproof. Originally created and tested on the French Synchronize Swimming Team. Its long-lasting formula will not crease or smudge under the most extreme conditions.
Can’t live without: Kat Von D. Tattoo Liner - Delivers a superfine, high-pigment, waterproof

3. Andrea Moss from Liberty Belle, Toorak.

HER MANTRA:
Four basic steps for summer skin include using a sunblock, drinking lots of water, alternate vitamin serums during the day and use a moisturising night cream.

“Women tend to “lighten” the amount of make-up they wear in summer – and there’s nothing worse than caked on foundation during the day. I’m a sun lover and I always get a shade darker in my foundation or pressed powder in summer. I tend to wear just a mineral powder during the day as it’s light, doesn’t clog the pores and also offers an SPF of 18.”

PRODUCT TIPS:

Vitamin C 20% serum $100
Multi B Plus Serum [$124]
Dermal Repair Cream $198

4. SUE DANN FROM DR.SPILLER

HER MANTRA:

It is paramount to use skin care products with antioxidants to help protect the skin from free radical damage.

Women need to use rich hydrating creams at night so the skin can restore itself and using a SPF is also essential in the summer months.

“Prevention is the key to good skin,” says Sue Dann. “The first step is to avoid excessive sun exposure and protect the skin with a suitable sunscreen product, avoid sunburn at all costs, wear a hat and protective clothing.

“Proven active ingredients such as allantoin, panthenol, beta glucan, vitamins and ceramides are very beneficial in supporting the skin’s healing and repair mechanisms.
